U-10 Boys

 

Cheetahs vs Bobcats

The Cheetahs played the final match of the season against the Bobcats early Saturday morning.  The Cheetahs defense was led by a quartet of goaltenders, Long-Quan Bach who braved an early barrage in the first quarter, Tommy Rafferty who dove all over the wet field, Charlie McLaughlin - ever steady and sure-handed, and James Buchholz who was on fire in net, making one outstanding save after another.  On offense Luke Disalvo teamed with Andrue Crowley and Brian Flanagan to lead the forays into the Bobcats zone, with support from Abhishek Gupte who turned several defensive stops into offensive charges.  Thanks to all the Cheetahs and Cheetahs fans for supporting the team all season!

 

 

 

 

 

WEEK #7

 

U-10 Boys

 

Cheetahs vs Bulls

The Cheetahs and Bulls played a very fast paced game on Saturday.  Forays into the offensive zone were fast and furious, highlighted by the Cheetahs pass of the season by Luke DiSalvo to Andrue Crowley who was positioned perfectly.  Brian Flanagan hustled all game and had a head for the ball throughout.  Ned Huzar played his last game of the season with his typical hustle and tenacity, while showing his teammates how to play with good sportsmanship.  Tommy Rafferty played superb in goal, assertively grabbing the ball and sending his team on the attack.  The Cheetahs continue to improve on accurate passing and saw several examples of how teamwork makes the whole team better.

Setters vs Shepards

 

The Setters and Shepards played a very exciting match this past weekend that saw plenty of back-and-forth action.  Offensively, the Setters were paced by Sophie James, Rose McKenna and Kimberly Pepoli.  Alexandra Monroy and Jessica Langston were extremely active in all phases of the game.  Backstopping the team in goal were Cerena Leaffer and Leah Hurley.  A special salute to Leah who came back in to close out the game after taking a very hard shot to the head. 

 

 

 

 

WEEK #6

 

U-10 Boys

 

Tigers vs Cougars,

The Tigers and Cougars played a very entertaining game of soccer. The Tigers played very well as a team and the improvement in team and individual soccer skills since the beginning of the season were clearly evident. In the second half the Tigers controlled the tempo of the game. Reuben Philip and Matt Manteiga played very well on offense and defense and made several excellent passes and had many shots on goal. Tim Liu was tireless on both offense and defense and was responsible for thwarting several attacking plays. Robert Smith and Brodie Twadelle played very well on offense and had a number of shots on goal. Corey Nobile was solid in goal.

Terriers versus the Spaniels

Olivia Pino and Charlotte Silveira gave effort in an exciting game vs. the Spaniels.  Emily Sifferlen and Emma Gossman made countless saves on a relentless Spaniels attack, while Lizzy Equi, Caroline Pinho and Megan Lane supplied constant offensive pressure.  Happy Birthday Caroline!

 

 

 

WEEK #5

 

U-10 Boys

 

The Cheetahs and Cougars played an energetic match on Saturday morning.  For the Cheetahs, Charlie McLaughlin, always a stalwart in goal, also displayed his footwork on offense today.  The team's improved passing was highlighted by a precise exchange between Abhishek Gupte, Ned Huzar, and Stephen Stabile.  James Buchholz was continually in the right place at the right time, helping to prevent the Cougars defense from swarming to the ball. And Andrue Crowley's hustle led to several exciting plays in the offensive zone.

 

The Tigers and the Grizzlies treated their spectators to a wonderful game of soccer. Both teams played very well and the Tigers demonstrated excellent team work and great composure. For the Tigers, it was truly a team effort and all the players deserve mention. Robert Smith, Matt Manteiga and Wonhee Han had excellent all round games and were involved in several defensive stops as well as several scoring opportunities and goals for the Tigers. Tim Liu had an excellent defensive game and disrupted many offensive forays. Reuben Philip played the middle of the field very well with several nice passes. Amin Hamdi, Brodie Twadelle and Matt Zhang did very well on offense and were involved in a number of goals. Namik Karamehmedovic and Corey Nobile were solid in goal.

 

10 Girls

 

The Setters and Great Danes staged an early morning contest on the frozen tundra at Carter Fields this past Saturday.  Nicole Coskren, Leah Hurley and Isabel Faigel led a dynamic offensive attack for the Setters while Cerena Leaffer and Kimberly Pepoli keyed the defense.  Rose McKenna was also stellar on defense as she thwarted many of the Great Danes advances.  Ali Monroy and Jade Julius submitted strong efforts in goal.

North Andover Thunder vs. Merrimac Pentucket Mystic (division 3)

The Thunder took on the Merrimac Pentucket Mystic and came away with a 3-0 victory. The offense was led by Taylor Barbagallo with 2 goals (her seventh of the season) and  Alexa Layne who had 1 goal. Alexa’s goal was particularly exciting since she headed the ball to stop it, and kicked it in.  Merrimac played most of the game in its own end due to great defense by Emily Steinberg, Nicole Barbagallo, Olivia DiMarzo , Sophie Pangione, Hannah Danca, and Lea Martinez.  Goal Keepers Emily Bierman and Emily Sauls were spectacular, stopping the few shots Merrimac managed to get.  Way to Go Thunder!

U-10 Boys

The Cheetahs and Buffaloes played a match marked by exchanges of offensive surges and defensive stops.  The Cheetahs' offensive charge was led by Tommy Rafferty, Luke DiSalvo and Long-Qaun Bach with nifty displays of passing and hustle.  Stephen Stabile and Ned Huzar led a solid defense by flying all over the defensive end and James Buchholz played steady goal during the Cheetahs' best defensive effort in the second half.

 

The Tigers played the Bobcats in a fast paced and thrilling game.  Players on both teams played their hearts out and it was an exciting game to watch. The Tigers played an excellent passing game, leading to several shots on goal.  Corey Nobile and Amin Hamdi played very well in goal and had several key saves. Robert Smith had an excellent game on offense and defense. Matt Manteiga and Reuben Philip played well on offense and made several excellent passes leading to scoring opportunities. Wonhee Han did very well in defense and in the middle of the field.

 

U-10 Girls

The Setters and Boxers squads matched up for a great game of soccer. The defense and goaltending were repeatedly tested in this contest and everyone played extremely hard.  Kimberly Pepoli and Jade Julius stood tall in net while Sophie James, Isabel Faigel and Jessica Langston led the defensive effort.  Leah Hurley was a force on offense as she and Rose McKenna put pressure on a tough Boxers defense.  Playing with few reserves, the Setters drank most of their water to the delight of their coach, who escaped his usual post-game water-bath.

 

 

October 4

U-10 Boys

The Cheetahs and Grizzlies had quite a back and forth match on Saturday morning.  For the Cheetahs, Long-Quan Bach displayed his leadership skills directing traffic and feeding his teammates with crisp passes.  Brian Flanagan, Abhishek Gupte, and Luke DiSalvo played solidly on both ends of the field by charging forward on offense and standing their ground on defense.  Andrue Crowley's goalkeeping stood out as he controlled the play near the goal and sent his team quickly back on offense. The entire Cheetah's team is making great strides by working together.

 

On Saturday the Tigers and Buffaloes played a very competitive and exciting game of soccer. Several players on both teams played very well and demonstrated soccer maturity beyond their age with their passing. Namik Karamehmedovic, Tim Liu and Corey Nobile were excellent in goal and had numerous saves denying the Buffaloes on several scoring chances. Wonhee Han and Matt Manteiga played excellent all-round games. Robert Smith, Reuben Philip and Matt Zhang were solid on defense and disrupted several attacks by the Buffaloes.

Terriers vs. Greyhounds  

Terrier goalkeepers Isabelle Comerford and Emma Gossman played brilliantly vs. a resolute Greyhound offense.  Elizabeth Equi, Hannah Feeney, and Jesse Cyr applied great offensive pressure, and Olivia Pino and Caroline Pinho exhibited highly skilled play.

 

Setters vs Beagles

The Setters and the Beagles had a very competitive game that saw great action throughout. The Setters were paced on offense by Nicole Coskren, Jessica Langston and Kimberly Pepoli. Attempting to thwart the repeated Beagle advances for the Setters were Rose McKenna, Isabel Faigel and Cerena Leaffer who made a key stop at mid-field that led to a Setters goal.

 

 

 

 

WEEK #3

 

U10 Boys

The Tigers and Panthers played a fantastic game of soccer this weekend, with excellent defense and offense from both teams. There were several outstanding players on both teams. Matt Manteiga had an excellent game on offense and defense. Amin Hamdi and Wonhee Han played very well on offense. Tim Liu and Robert Smith did an excellent job on defense and disrupted several offensive forays by the Panthers. Corey Nobile and Brodie Twadelle had several key saves while playing in goal, denying the Panthers a number of scoring chances.

Setters vs Greyhounds

The Setters played the Greyhounds in an even match on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon.  The Setters received many contributions on offense and were led by Nicole Coskren, Jessica Langston and Sophie James.  Cerena Leaffer and Jade Julius provided strong mid-field play while Alexandra Monroy and Rose McKenna came through with exceptional goaltending efforts.  The Setters celebrated their superb effort by dumping water on their coach.

 

Terriers vs Dalmations

The Terriers needed a strong defensive performance as they took on the very skilled Dalmations offense.  Jesse Cyr, Emma Gossman, and Charlotte Silveria were up to the task, breaking up many offensive threats.  Emily Sifferlen and Danielle Langdon moved the ball sharply on offense for the Terriers, and Megan Lane was flawless in goal.

 

 

 

WEEK #2

 

U-12 Girls

North Andover Thunder vs. Newburyport Blizzard(division 3)

 

The Thunder rebounded from it’s loss to Andover the previous week with a dominating performance against the Blizzards of Newburyport, beating them 5 - 1 .  The offense was led by Jacqueline Petto with 3 goals and Taylor Barbagallo with 2 goals.  These came to play thanks to great assists by Emily Steinberg, Olivia  DiMarzo, Emily Sauls and Lea Martinez.  A stifling defense, led by Alexa Layne,  Emily Steinberg and Nicole Barbagallo; and backed up by Sophie Pangione, Hanna Danca ; and Olivia DiMarzo; frustrated  the Blizzards  and resulting in a quiet day for  the goal keepers. The midfield was dominated effectively by the  play of Kyra Brown, Emily Bierman, and Kelsey MacMillan.

Terriers vs Collies

 

The Terriers opened the Fall season with  great effort.  In an evenly matched game  vs. the Collies,  Hannah Feeney and Isabelle Comerford  exhibited great defense.  Olivia Pino and Elizabeth Equi  played with boundless energy in the blazing afternoon sun and a tireless  Caroline Pinho made several impressive saves in the last few minutes of the game.

Setters vs Retrievers

 

The Setters played a very tough Retrievers team this past Saturday under hot and muggy conditions.  Isabel Faigel led the Setters on offense with strong contributions from Nicole Coskren and Kimberly Pepoli.   On defense, the Setters were paced by Jessica Langston (a.k.a. "the birthday girl") and Rose McKenna who battled hard the entire game.  Cerena Leaffer and Leah Hurley were tigers in net stopping many hard Retriever shots.  

Beagles vs Boxers

 

The Beagles put up a good fight against the Boxers on Saturday. Greta Hoehn was tough in goal making several impressive stops.  Speedy Taylor Crane moved the ball quickly on offense along with a tenacious Gabriella DiPietro.  Emma Callamaro commanded the open mid field with pretty footwork and some well timed passes. Chrissy Beresford was a wall on defense and Mikela Eisenhood was pure hustle on both sides of the ball, showing off some excellent footwork.

Bulls vs Tigers

 

In their inaugral performance in the fall 2008 season the Bulls and Tigers battled it out in a seesaw game at Chadwick fields.  While North Andover newcomer Jack Landers led the Bulls offense, with strong performances also coming from David Sciaudone and Camren Twomey, Sam Naftal was a stalwart in goal, turning away shot after shot.  On the defensive side, Matt Delmonico and Jack Borasseau led the Bulls with aggressive play and control of the backfield.    

 

 

 

 

 

Week #1

 

North Andover Thunder vs. Andover Spirit (division 3)

The Thunder lost a heart-breaker in the closing minutes of the first game of the Fall 2008 season to the Andover Spirit; when the Spirit scored what turned out to be the game winning goal with just minutes left to take a 2 -1 lead  and ultimately the win.  Andover jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half, but the thunder fought back, controlling play for most of the second half and tying the game at 1 on an unassisted goal by Taylor Barbagallo.  Strong offense was provided by Emily Sauls and by Jacqueline Petto. Emily Steinberg and Alexa Layne were effective on both sides of the field and  Emily Sauls and Kyra Brown performed consistently well in goal; both stopping many Andover scoring bids.   Nicole Barbagallo, Emily Bierman, Olivia DiMarzo, Sophie Pangione, and Hanna Danca  pitched in with terrific  ball handling, passing;, and defensive skill at midfield and defense.
